(GRAND ISLAND INDEPENDENT) The Grand Island Independent reports, "Heavy rains drenched much of Central Nebraska over the weekend, causing two dams to fail and damaging area crops.
Over that weekend, 5 to 7 inches of rain fell in areas of Central Nebraska, causing rivers to rise rapidly as the National Weather Service issued flash flooding warnings.
Heavy rain contributed to the Ericson Dam in Wheeler County failing Sunday evening. The heavy rainfall also created excessive runoff across portions of Valley County, which caused the Bredthauer Dam (located about four and a half miles upstream of North Loup) to break Saturday afternoon."
