"Attorneys in water dispute lawsuit say arguments before Supreme Court went well"

(KEARNEY HUB) The Kearney Hub reports, "Attorneys for both sides in a Platte Basin water management dispute said they made their key arguments to the Nebraska Supreme Court Tuesday morning primarily by answering the judges' questions.

'I think it went well today,' said Scottsbluff attorney Steve Smith, legal counsel for the North Platte Natural Resources District.

Smith's counterpart, Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District's attorney Mike Klein of Holdrege, said it's impossible to predict the outcome.

However, 'The court clearly understands and appreciates the issue,' he said. The court will decide if Central, a surface-water irrigation district, can challenge groundwater pumping allocations set by a natural resources district."
