(OMAHA WORLD-HERALD) The Omaha World-Herald reports "Central Platte Natural Resources District officials continue to work on several fronts to acquire 3,400 acre-feet worth of water credits to the Platte River in their overappropriated part of the basin west of Elm Creek.
The goal is to return water uses to 1997 levels.
At Thursday's CPNRD board meeting in Grand Island, General Manager Ron Bishop was authorized to continue negotiations with leaders of two small irrigation districts in Dawson County on possible agreements for all or some of those districts' surface water rights.
Bishop said he's talking to officials of the Cozad Ditch Co., which serves about 6,500 acres from the Gothenburg area to near Lexington, on a proposal to have CPNRD take over canal operations and maintenance in exchange for some of its 1894 water rights."
