"Pipeline analysis gives little attention to aquifer"

(SIOUX CITY JOURNAL) The Sioux City Journal reports, "The draft environmental impact statement is out, and Atkinson banker Dan Kramer has been thumbing through it to try to understand how an underground petroleum pipeline can be built through the Nebraska Sandhills without posing a serious threat to one of the state's most treasured resources.

So far, he doesn't understand how government oversight will matter much in safeguarding the massive Ogallala Aquifer when the Keystone XL pipeline starts pumping oil.

Kramer feels equally uncertain about the implications for a water table that typically bubbles up through the soil surface during springtime around Atkinson."
