(LINCOLN JOURNAL STAR) The Lincoln Journal-Star reports, "The state Department of Health and Human Services is issuing an order to Denton officials to remedy the high levels of radium -- a naturally occurring radioactive element -- in its drinking water.
Long-term exposure to radium at high levels increases the risk of developing diseases related to bone cancer, said Jack Daniel, who monitors municipal water systems for the state of Nebraska.
The village's options include building a water treatment plant or drilling a new well and abandoning the one with the high levels of radium.
Both are costly solutions."
