(OMAHA WORLD-HERALD) The Omaha World-Herald reports "A constitutional amendment on this year's ballot in Iowa would create a trust fund to pay for environmental efforts in the state.
The Land and Water Legacy Amendment's aim is to set up a fund to pay for efforts like increasing water quality, reducing soil erosion, protecting wildlife habitats and park and trail creation. Three-eighths of 1 percent of any future sales tax increases would be siphoned into the fund.
The ballot measure is State Constitutional Amendment Question 1. It would essentially create a fund that sits empty, but proponents say that's up to state lawmakers."
