(HASTINGS TRIBUNE) The Hastings Tribune reports, "Nebraska farmers probably won't help solve the state's water problems with their crop checkoff dollars. On Tuesday, lawmakers gave first-round approval to a bill (LB689) that would block the current plan to use a portion of the checkoff fees on corn and grain sorghum to raise money for a state water fund. The fees would raise more than $7 million annually for the water fund to deal with management issues, such as in the Platte and Republican basins, beginning in 2013."
