(OMAHA WORLD HERALD) The Omaha World Herald reports, "Lawmakers advanced a bill Tuesday that would undo a compromise reached three years ago to finance water management efforts in the state. In 2007, the Nebraska Legislature passed a law that required corn and sorghum farmers to help finance those efforts through the checkoff fees paid when corn is sold.
But on a 44-1 vote, lawmakers advanced a bill from first-round debate that would undo that deal, which would have provided $7.5 million a year for seven years to help bring Nebraska into compliance with a multistate agreement on the use of Platte River water."
