(LINCOLN JOURNAL STAR) The Lincoln Journal Star reports, "Impending rain and melting snow have raised yearly fears of flooding in much of eastern Nebraska.
Platte County emergency management director Tim Hofbauer said emergency management officials are monitoring the Loup and Platte rivers and feeder streams.
He said temperatures approaching the 50s through the weekend, plus rain, could cause ice to jam up river and stream flows, sending water into low-lying areas.
Fears of flood-causing ice jams along the lower Platte were included in the National Weather Service's latest flood outlook. The statement released Friday also says minor to moderate flooding is expected this spring in the Elkhorn and Big Blue river basins, and melting snow presents some potential for flooding along the Missouri River."
