(KEARNEY HUB) The Kearney Hub reports "There is no denying that the past eight years of drought have made wiser water users out of area farmers and ranchers. They've learned that they can produce a good crop with a lot less water than they had traditionally used, and there is still more to learn about efficient water management.
Two of these management methods are based on the latest technology that has been making its way into farming and ranching operations in western Nebraska and eastern Wyoming. One is sub-surface drip irrigation, and the other is variable application rates of not only seed and fertilizer, but also of water.
A Tuesday morning tour of two area demonstration fields provided a look at how these two operations might improve yields on fields that had restricted water use."
