(LINCOLN JOURNAL STAR) The Lincoln Journal Star reports, "Nebraska's biggest lake continues to rebound from historic low water levels a few years ago but lower-than-normal inflows could keep it from reaching a previously projected peak this year.
Holdrege-based Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District says the water level at Lake McConaughy is more than 14 feet higher than it was a year ago. That equals about 300,000 more acre feet of water than a year ago.
An acre-foot is the amount of water it takes to cover an acre with a foot of water.
Despite the higher level, current inflows are about 80 percent to 85 percent of normal for this time of year.
Unless inflows pick up this spring, the lake might fall short of the previously projected peak of elevation 3,251 feet."
