(NORTH PLATTE TELEGRAPH) The North Platte Telegraph reports, "State legislators advanced a measure Tuesday designed to allow irrigators in the water-challenged Republican River valley to head off "economic destruction" during drought years. Proponents said that bill also would give more solid legal footing to a 2007 law that permits an occupation tax to be charged on irrigators. The 2007 law was recently upheld by a Lancaster County judge, though the ruling is being appealed to the Nebraska Supreme Court.
