"Water officials seeking common ground"

(KEARNEY HUB) The Kearney Hub reports, "Answers to questions posed at a meeting of federal, state, natural resources district and irrigation district officials Thursday in Cambridge will be critical to the short-term use and long-term sustainability of the Republican Basin.
Are state and local water regulators honestly willing to alter course in the Republican Basin? Can they agree on what the new course(s) should be? How will any new ideas be funded? Nebraska Department of Natural Resources Director Brian Dunnigan said the purpose of the meeting organized by his agency was to have a frank discussion about current perceptions of the basin’s water issues and to collaboratively identify future needs to resolve the issues.
Also represented were the Upper, Middle, Lower and Tri-Basin NRDs; Frenchman Valley, H&RW, Frenchman Cambridge and Nebraska Bostwick irrigation districts; and the federal Bureau of Reclamation.
