(KEARNEY HUB) The Kearney Hub reports "The Central Platte Natural Resources District soon will acquire Platte River credits for surface water that has flowed down the Six-Mile Canal south of Gothenburg to irrigate 1,500-1,700 acres of crops.
At Thursday’s CPNRD board meeting in Grand Island, General Manager Ron Bishop said canal officials have agreed to CPNRD’s offer to purchase the water rights, and the irrigation district will close the canal.
Bishop said the deal should provide 100-120 acre-feet of river credits toward his district’s share of 3,400 a-f in the overappropriated part of the Platte Basin west of Elm Creek."
