(KEARNEY HUB) The Kearney Hub reports "Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District irrigators used an average of less than 6 inches of water per acre during the 2010 growing season.
CNPPID Irrigation Division Manager Dave Ford said the 5.75 inches compares with an average of 5.2 inches over the past five years of allocations because of low water supplies in Lake McConaughy. Average water use since 1942 has been around 10.25 inches per acre.
An unusually wet spring and early summer this year allowed district officials to return to a full water supply of up to 18 inches."
